Local Initiatives
United Way does much more than fund the best programs. Today’s community issues are increasingly complex and cannot be solved by any one program alone. In addition to funding a network of effective agency programs, we also play a leadership role in convening key players to work together on the toughest problems. The Latino Initiative The Far Northwest Suburbs are home to some of the largest and fastest growing Latino communities in our region. Recently launched by the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, in partnership with the Suburban Member United Ways and supported by a Challenge Grant from ComEd, the Latino Initiative aims to provide the youth of the Latino community with the support structures needed to grow into successful adults, critical to the strength of our communities. The Far Northwest Suburban United Way is going to be working closely with this Initiative; if you are interested in volunteering donating to the Latino Initiative, please contact us. For more information, please see the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago website or this informational brochure (pdf).
Holiday Helpers In what is fast becoming an annual tradition, the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce and the Far Northwest Suburban United Way have teamed up for the Holiday Helper program. Families supported by United Way partner agencies are provided care packages including decorations, holiday meals, and gifts; all the holiday trimmings to help make their holiday seasons truly special.
